Petrobras plans to deploy 11 new FPSOs in Brazil’s pre-salt layer by 2027
Petrobras, one of the world’s largest oil and gas giants, has unveiled ambitious plans to deploy 11 new Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels in Brazil’s pre-salt layer by 2027.
As part of their 2023-2027 strategic plan, Petrobras has allocated a staggering $64 billion for investments in exploration and production activities, with a significant 67% earmarked for investments in the pre-salt layer. With the addition of new projects to their existing production units, the company aims to achieve a daily production rate of 3.1 million barrels of oil equivalent by 2027, with 78% of this production coming from the pre-salt layer.

The ambitious plan includes the construction of 11 new FPSOs by 2027, with six of them designated for the Búzios oil field. The FPSO Almirante Tamandaré is expected to arrive in 2024, followed by the P-78 and P-79 in 2025, P-80 and P-82 in 2026, and finally, P-83 in 2027.
In the latter half of 2023, Petrobras will deploy its second FPSO in the Sepetiba area of the Mero oil field, with a production capacity of up to 180,000 barrels per day. By 2025, the company plans to commission two new units in the same area.
Apart from the Santos Basin fields mentioned earlier, the Jubarte oil field in the Campos Basin is set to receive the FPSO Maria Quitéria in 2025, with a production capacity of up to 100,000 barrels per day. Another Campos Basin oil field, Albacora, which completed 35 years of operation last year, will welcome a new FPSO in 2027.
Petrobras stated, “We will put 11 pre-salt platforms into operation in the next five years, ensuring the sustainability of our production, underscoring the importance and scale of our performance in the pre-salt layer.”
