Haihao Group shares exciting news: Delivery of the world’s largest Next-Generation offshore wind installation vessel, BOREAS

Haihao Group shares exciting news: Delivery of the world’s largest Next-Generation offshore wind installation vessel, BOREAS

On January 8th, CIMC Raffles delivered the BOREAS project, the world’s largest and latest generation offshore wind installation vessel, to the Dutch company Van Oord at its Yantai base. This milestone marks a significant leap forward for the global offshore wind industry and highlights China’s robust capabilities in high-end marine equipment manufacturing.

BOREAS: A Marvel of Engineering and Environmental Innovation

BOREAS stands as a testament to advanced engineering, measuring 176 meters in length and 63 meters in width. With a maximum working water depth of 80 meters, a deck area exceeding 7,000 square meters, and a lifting capacity of 55,000 tons, BOREAS sets new benchmarks in offshore wind installation.

Key features include:

Unparalleled Lifting Power: A main crane with a lifting capacity of 3,310 tons and a boom height of 155 meters, capable of installing 25 MW offshore wind turbines.

Environmental Advancements: Equipped with methanol storage tanks and five dual-fuel methanol engines, BOREAS can reduce its carbon footprint by over 78%. Additionally, selective catalytic reduction technology minimizes nitrogen oxide emissions while enhancing energy efficiency and reducing fuel consumption.

Automation and Hybrid Innovation

The BOREAS project is distinguished by its state-of-the-art automation and hybrid capabilities. It is the world’s first offshore wind installation vessel to fully implement oil-electric hybrid power. The onboard battery system achieves a breakthrough, offering functionality equivalent to a primary engine. These innovations ensure the vessel’s efficiency and reliability in offshore wind turbine transportation and installation.
