With the FPSO’s FID drawing near, which Chinese shipyard stands a chance to collaborate with Modec?

Shell is advancing plans to build a cost-effective floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel for its gato do mato pre-salt development project offshore Brazil.

Shell aims to make a final investment decision by March 2025 and collaborate with its engineering contractor, modec, with a high likelihood of Chinese shipyards participating in this project.

Modec is expected to complete front-end engineering design (FEED) work by the end of the year. The project’s goal is to reduce the size of the floaters without affecting production capacity, thereby lowering costs.

Gato Do Mato is a conventional oil development project located in Brazil’s ultra-deepwater area, operated by Shell Brasil Petroleo. Discovered in 2019, Gato Do Mato is located in blocks S-M-518 and Sul Do Gato Do Mato, with a water depth of approximately 6790 feet.
