FPSO P-71 reaches the highest production level

On the 13th of this month, Petrobras, the Brazilian National Oil Company, announced that its platform vessel, P-71 FPSO, has achieved a peak production level of 150,000 barrels of oil per day.

According to the company’s press release, the P-71 FPSO serves as the sole production platform for the Itapu oil field, located approximately 124 miles off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. It also marks the sixth FPSO in the Santos Basin.

Petrobras highlighted that the vessel features standardized engineering design, high production capacity, advanced operational technology, and a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. One of the low-carbon technologies incorporated is the Flare Gas Recovery Unit (FGRU) system, contributing to enhanced gas utilization and emission reduction.

Despite its scheduled start of production in 2023, the FPSO commenced production in mid-December 2022. Besides processing up to 6 million cubic meters (211.9 million cubic feet) of natural gas daily, the P-71 FPSO has a storage capacity of up to 1.6 million barrels of oil per day.
