One of our notable collaborations is in the prestigious FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading) project for Petrobras’ Mero pre-salt field offshore Brazil. The FPSO in focus is the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmao, which marks a significant achievement in the industry.
The construction of the FPSO commenced at the esteemed Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard (SWS), a prominent Chinese shipyard known for its expertise and cutting-edge facilities. After an intensive construction process, the hull of the Alexandre de Gusmao FPSO was successfully launched in October of last year and delivered in April of this year.

To further elevate the project’s success, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry entrusted SBM Offshore with the task of building the FPSO’s superstructure, integrating it with the hull, and commissioning the vessel. This collaboration ensured the seamless integration of various critical components, including mooring systems, risers, and platforms, with a remarkable total steel weight of approximately 10,000 tonnes. This intricate process was carried out at the Qidong Shipyard, highlighting the exceptional capabilities of our collaborative efforts.
The FPSO Alexandre de Gusmao is poised to begin production in 2025, contributing significantly to the offshore oil and gas industry. The project’s success was further solidified by SBM’s recent agreement with a consortium of 12 international banks to secure a substantial financing facility of US$1.615 billion. This financing arrangement, backed by three international export credit agencies, showcases the trust and confidence placed in this groundbreaking project.
