Bumi Armada collaborates with pertamina and davenergy to develop FLNG for madura gas fields

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Bumi Armada, a prominent player in the Malaysian oil and gas services sector, is embarking on a groundbreaking venture. The company has inked a non-binding agreement with Indonesia’s national oil company, Pertamina, and Indonesia’s natural gas pipeline company, Davenergy Mulia Perkasa, to develop a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) vessel, capitalizing on the resources of the Madura gas field and its surrounding reserves.

According to a statement released by Bumi Armada, the agreement was officially signed on Wednesday, solidifying a partnership between Bumi Armada, Pertamina International Shipping, and Davenergy to develop and commercialize Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the Madura oil field in Indonesia. Per the terms of the agreement, Bumi Armada and Pertamina will jointly oversee the design, engineering, construction, and installation of the FLNG vessel. The initial LNG shipments are expected to commence three years after the Final Investment Decision (FID).

Madura PSC gas field in the East Java Basin of Indonesia is operated by Hess-Keyworth Middle East Ltd. (HCML). Currently, Bumi Armada operates the Karapan Armada Sterling III FPSO in the same region. This area stands as one of Indonesia’s most prolific regions for oil production. Last year, the joint venture marked a significant milestone with the commencement of production in the MDA natural gas field, part of the Indonesian 3M project.

On the other hand, Pertamina, Indonesia’s national oil company, operates the Bontang liquefied natural gas terminal in Indonesia and recently acquired a 20% stake, including participation in the planned Abadi LNG project, from Shell in the Indonesian Masela PSC.

This collaboration between Bumi Armada, Pertamina, and Davenergy marks a significant step towards harnessing the abundant natural gas resources in the region and underscores the commitment to advancing the LNG industry in Indonesia.
