What is vacuum heat treatment?

What is vacuum heat treatment?

In actual production, alloying weld metal is an important method to improve the properties of the weld. This process involves adding alloying elements such as Mn, Si, Ti, Nb, B, and rare earth elements through welding materials (electrodes, welding wires, or flux) to the weld metal. These elements undergo complex metallurgical reactions to enhance the weld structure and optimize its performance. The following points should be noted during this process:

1.Addition of Alloying Elements: These elements help pin the austenite grain boundaries, inhibiting the growth of austenite grains and refining the primary solidification structure of the weld, which further refines the secondary crystallization structure when the weld cools to room temperature.

2.Preventing or Inhibiting Proeutectoid Ferrite Transformation: The aim is to maximize the amount of acicular ferrite in the weld metal.

3.Formation of Fine Particulate or Spherical High Melting Point Inclusions: The added alloying elements form these inclusions, which act as nucleation sites for ferrite within the austenite, promoting the transformation of acicular ferrite while preventing the formation of side plate ferrite and M-A constituents.

4.Suppressing the Transformation of Martensite and Upper Bainite: It is important to minimize these transformations to improve weld toughness.
