Haihao Group congratulates the successful application of domestic “Permanent Mooring Steel Cable” in “Nanhai Fenjin” FPSO mooring system
We are thrilled to share the exciting news that the first domestically developed “Permanent Mooring Steel Cable,” led by Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNOOC Engineering), has been successfully applied in the “Nanhai Fenjin” FPSO mooring system. This groundbreaking achievement fills the gap in the domestic permanent mooring steel cable industry, signifying a significant advancement in China’s offshore oil and gas sector’s domestic single-point mooring system technology.
Permanent Mooring Steel Cable in Nanhai Fenjin FPSO Mooring System
The single-point mooring system is a crucial component of offshore oil and gas production facilities. The “Permanent Mooring Steel Cable” serves as the core element of the mooring system, playing a vital role in ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of the entire system. However, the Chinese offshore oil and gas industry has long relied on imported mooring steel cables, leading to high procurement costs, long supply cycles, and inadequate maintenance responses.
To address these challenges, CNOOC Engineering spearheaded the research project on key technologies of single-point mooring systems, collaborating with CNOOC (China) Co., Ltd. Shenzhen Branch and Guizhou Steel Wire Rope Co., Ltd., to independently develop steel cables suitable for long-term offshore mooring applications.
After multiple rounds of product design discussions and various experimental tests, the steel cable product successfully passed the expert review and certification by CNOOC, and it was recently applied in the “Nanhai Fenjin” FPSO trans-regional relocation project, laid in the Huizhou sea area, and connected to the single-point turret buoy. The domestic “Permanent Mooring Steel Cable” features a high-corrosion-resistant coating and is equipped with an anode protection system, ensuring the cable’s longevity. Its double-layer sheath design effectively prevents seawater corrosion and potential wear, minimizing maintenance costs and providing a secure guarantee for the long-term in-situ operation of offshore oil and gas production platforms.

Looking ahead, CNOOC Engineering will leverage this successful project to continue collaborating with domestic universities and manufacturers, focusing on key technology and product development.
