Petrobras and Shapoorji Pallonji Near Major FPSO Contract for Barracuda and Caratinga Fields

Petrobras, Brazil’s state-owned oil company, is in the final stages of negotiations with Shapoorji Pallonji Energy Private Limited for the lease of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit for the Barracuda and Caratinga revitalization project. According to sources familiar with the deal, Shapoorji Pallonji was the sole bidder in Petrobras’ tender, offering an estimated $1.6 million daily rate for the FPSO lease. The final contract value may be adjusted during negotiations.

This FPSO is a key part of Petrobras’ 2025-2029 business plan, with operations expected to start in 2029. It will have the capacity to produce 100,000 barrels of oil per day and process 6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. The unit will be connected to 21 production wells and 8 water injection wells, playing a crucial role in boosting production and ensuring long-term development of the Barracuda and Caratinga oil fields.

More FPSO Projects in Petrobras’ Pipeline

Beyond the Barracuda and Caratinga FPSO, Petrobras is actively pursuing several other FPSO tenders:

On February 12, Petrobras’ management is expected to review and launch a new bidding process for an FPSO for the Albacora field. This contract will follow a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, where the selected company constructs and operates the FPSO for 3 to 5 years before transferring it to Petrobras.

Petrobras is also preparing to launch a new FPSO tender for the Búzios field, one of Brazil’s largest deepwater oil fields, further accelerating its development.

Additionally, the Sergipe Deepwater Project (SEAP) FPSO tender is currently underway.
