Haihao Group Ships ASTM A234 WPB Fittings to Singapore

Haihao Group has completed a shipment of ASTM A234 WPB fittings for a Singapore customer, covering carbon steel reducers, 90-degree elbows and tees in a wide range of sizes and wall thicknesses. The order includes seamless and ERW fittings, with dimensions from 1″ to 18″ and schedules ranging from SCH 20 to SCH 160 and XS.

Rather than using one standard thickness across the order, the customer specified each fitting according to its connection size and required schedule. This resulted in a mixed package of concentric reducers, eccentric reducers, long-radius elbows, short-radius elbows, straight tees and reducing tees, all manufactured to the applicable ASME standards.

All fittings in the order use ASTM A234 Grade WPB, a commonly specified carbon steel fitting material for process and industrial piping. The purchasing specification also distinguishes the fitting type and wall thickness rather than applying a single configuration to every item.

Reducers: Matching Different Pipe Diameters and Schedules

Reducers make up a substantial part of this Singapore shipment. Both concentric and eccentric configurations were included.

The concentric reducers range from the small 1″ × 3/4″ SCH 160 size to the larger 10″ × 8″ XS configuration. The order also contains an 18″ × 16″ SCH 20 eccentric reducer, as well as 10″ × 6″, 8″ × 4″ and 3″ × 1 1/2″ eccentric reducers with different schedule combinations.

These specifications show why reducer procurement cannot be based on nominal diameter alone. When the run pipe and branch or connecting pipe have different wall thicknesses, the reducer needs to correspond to the specified schedule combination.

For example, the 3″ × 1 1/2″ eccentric reducer is specified as SCH XS × SCH 160, while the 8″ × 4″ reducer uses SCH STD × SCH XS. These details are retained in the production and inspection documentation to keep the finished fittings aligned with the customer’s piping specification.

Long-Radius and Short-Radius Elbows

The order also includes two different 90-degree elbow configurations.

The smaller elbows are 3″ SCH 160 and 1 1/2″ XS, both long-radius and seamless. The larger elbows are 14″ SCH 40 and 18″ SCH 20, both short-radius and ERW.

This combination is notable because the customer did not specify the same elbow geometry or manufacturing route across all sizes. The long-radius elbows are supplied under ANSI B16.9, while the 14″ and 18″ short-radius elbows are specified to ANSI B16.28.

For a project buyer, keeping the radius, schedule, manufacturing method and dimensional standard together is important. A fitting with the correct nominal size but the wrong radius or wall-thickness configuration may not be interchangeable at the fabrication stage.

Tees for Straight and Reducing Connections

The tee portion of the shipment covers both equal and reducing configurations.

The 1 1/2″ SCH XS tee is a straight tee, while the remaining tee items are reducing designs. These include 2″ × 1 1/2″, 4″ × 1 1/2″, 14″ × 6″ and 18″ × 8″ combinations.

The two 14″ × 6″ reducing tees are particularly useful examples of how the same nominal connection sizes can be supplied with different wall-thickness combinations: one is SCH 40 × SCH XS, while the other is SCH 20 × SCH STD.

This level of specification is important when the fittings are being installed alongside pipes with different schedules. It allows the customer to order the fitting against the actual piping line specification rather than making assumptions based only on diameter.

Why the Material and Standard Details Matter

For this Singapore order, ASTM A234 WPB fittings were specified together with ASME/ANSI dimensional requirements. Most reducers and tees are to ANSI B16.9, while the short-radius elbows are specified to ANSI B16.28.

The order also distinguishes between seamless and ERW construction. Seamless construction was specified for the majority of the smaller and medium-size fittings, while the 14″ and 18″ short-radius elbows were ordered as ERW products.
