PMI provides a direct verification of material identity and helps confirm that the supplied fittings correspond to the specified stainless steel grade. The supplied fittings require solution annealing and pickling heat treatment.

Solution annealing is used to establish the required metallurgical condition of austenitic stainless steel fittings. Pickling is then applied to remove surface oxides and heat-treatment scale, leaving a cleaner stainless steel surface.

For process piping components, surface condition can be an important part of the final product quality. The combination of heat treatment, surface cleaning, PMI and liquid penetrant testing provides several layers of verification before shipment.
