Exciting News in the FPSO Industry: FPSO P-84 and P-85 Contracts Signed
Seatrium has secured a significant contract from Petrobras, the Brazilian national oil company, to build two FPSOs, P-84 and P-85. The contract is valued at 11 billion SGD (approximately 57.9 billion RMB). Construction of these FPSOs is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with delivery expected by 2029.
According to Seatrium’s announcement on the 25th, P-84 and P-85 are part of Petrobras’s new generation of high-production FPSO platforms, featuring innovative and sustainable technologies. Each FPSO will have an oil production capacity of 225,000 barrels per day and a gas processing capacity of 10 million cubic meters per day.
Once completed, these FPSOs will be deployed in the Atapu and Sepia oil fields in the Santos Basin off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They will incorporate advanced technologies such as zero routine flaring and emissions, variable speed drives and emission controls, as well as Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) capabilities. Notably, major energy companies like Shell, TotalEnergies, and QatarEnergy hold stakes in these oil field projects.
Global Collaboration and Innovative Construction
The construction of these FPSOs will follow Seatrium’s “One Seatrium Delivery Model,” which integrates operations and engineering support across different shipyards worldwide. Shipyards in Brazil, China, and Singapore will be involved in building these two FPSO platforms. Specifically, Seatrium’s shipyards in these countries will handle the fabrication of the 60,000-ton hulls and living modules, which will then be transported to Singapore for the integration and commissioning of the topside modules. CEO Chris Ong emphasized that Seatrium was awarded this project through a “rigorous bidding process.”
Furthermore, the construction of these FPSOs will incorporate an all-electric concept aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emission intensity by 30%, enhancing operational efficiency, and minimizing environmental impact, in line with Seatrium’s commitment to sustainable operations.
