Haihao Group congratulates CNOOC’s offshore oil engineering on obtaining new FPSO patent

Haihao Group, recognized as a strategic reserve supplier for both PetroChina (China National Petroleum Corporation) and CNOOC (China National Offshore Oil Corporation), extends hearty congratulations to Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC) on the recent acquisition of a new patent for FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) technology. As announced by the National Intellectual Property Administration on December 25, 2023, the patent titled “Method for Steering Round FPSO” has been officially granted with Authorization Number CN113772072B, following its application on September 2021.

The patent abstract reveals an innovative method for steering cylindrical FPSOs using three towing winches. Controlled by the orientation of Winches B and C, Winch A drags the cylindrical FPSO to a spacious water area. Subsequently, the towing cables on Winch B are increased to two under the control of Winches A and C. Utilizing this disclosed method, Winch B propels the cylindrical FPSO into rotation. This inventive approach makes it easier to control the orientation of cylindrical FPSOs in water, even in less-than-ideal sea conditions. It minimizes the likelihood of axial rotation, thereby reducing the difficulty of controlling the vessel’s orientation and trajectory, consequently mitigating construction risks.
