What is a plate flange?

A plate flange is also known as flat flange or plain flange,some people called it plate slip on flange.It lookes like a flat circular disk with inner holes and bolt holes on it,that is weled onto the end of a steel pipe and allowing it to be bolted to another steel pipe. Plate flanges (flat flanges or plain flanges) are fixed to the pipe by fillet welds at the bottom and top of the flange. The inner hole of plate flange is a little bigger than the pipe outer diameter. Plate flanges (flat flanges or plain flanges) are not suitable for high pressure applications because the welding method is fillet weld. Flat flanges are commonly used for fuel and water pipelines,the two flanges are bolted together and gaskets are placed between them.

ANSI/ASME B16.5 (In ANSI/ASME B16.5 standard,there is no plate slip on flange,only hub slip on flange in it,but in different projects the ANSI B16.5 plate flange is used a lot for decrease the cost of the projects.The ANSI/ASME  B16.5 plain flange should have the same dimensions and pcds with the slip on flange,the only difference is without a hub on the flange.)
