Petrobras places new order with onesubsea!
Haihao Group, a prominent player in the pipeline systems industry for over 40 years, has been involved in numerous domestic and international pipeline projects. One notable project was the P-82 FPSO, where we supplied a significant amount of pipeline system components. With our deep interest in global oil and gas projects and FPSO developments, we are excited to share the latest update from Petrobras.
Petrobras Partners with OneSubsea for Subsea Production Systems
Petrobras, the Brazilian national oil company, has signed a contract with OneSubsea to supply subsea production systems for the development of the ultra-deepwater pre-salt reservoirs in the Atapu and Sepia fields, located in the Santos Basin. OneSubsea, a joint venture of SLB (formerly Schlumberger), Aker Solutions, and Subsea7, specializes in subsea technology and solutions.
Contract Details
While the specific contract value remains undisclosed, OneSubsea describes it as a “major contract” for these projects. Under the agreement, OneSubsea will provide standardized pre-salt subsea production systems for the Atapu and Sepia fields, including:
Subsea Vertical Christmas Trees
Subsea Distribution Units
Subsea Control Systems
Pipeline Systems
Installation, Commissioning, and Life-of-Field Services
Technical and Manufacturing Support
Most of the technology and equipment, such as the vertical Christmas trees and subsea control systems, will be produced and maintained at OneSubsea’s facilities in Brazil, supporting local manufacturing and underscoring Brazil’s importance as a key market for OneSubsea.
Field Development
The second development phase of the Atapu and Sepia fields has received the Final Investment Decision (FID). Production is expected to commence in 2029 with two new Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units, P-84 (Atapu) and P-85 (Sepia).
Atapu Field: Production began in 2020 via FPSO P-70, with a current daily output of 150,000 barrels of oil. The second phase, Atapu-2, will introduce a new FPSO with an expected daily output of 225,000 barrels.
Sepia Field: Production started in 2021 with FPSO Carioca, currently producing 180,000 barrels per day. The second phase, Sepia-2, will also add a new FPSO with a projected daily output of 225,000 barrels.
Environmental Measures
The design of these FPSOs features all-electric configurations aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Key technologies include waste heat recovery, closed flare systems, cargo tank gas recovery, and variable speed drives for compressors and pumps, expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per barrel of oil produced by 30%.
Partners
Atapu Field: Petrobras (65.7%), TotalEnergies (15%), Shell (16.7%), Petrogal (1.7%), and PPSA (0.9%).
Sepia Field: Petrobras (55.3%), TotalEnergies (16.9%), Petronas (12.7%), QatarEnergy (12.7%), and Petrogal (2.4%).
Strategic Importance
The signing of this contract not only strengthens the relationship between OneSubsea and Petrobras but also marks a significant step in Petrobras’s commitment to its hydrocarbon growth plans in Brazil and beyond. This collaboration highlights Petrobras’s crucial role in the global offshore oil and gas industry and its ongoing efforts to innovate technologically and address environmental challenges.
With continued investment in the Santos Basin and partnerships with international players, the second development phases of the Atapu and Sepia fields are poised to bring substantial economic benefits to Brazil. These projects will further solidify Brazil’s position as a leading oil and gas producer while advancing sustainable practices through the adoption of cutting-edge environmental technologies.
