A Milestone Achievement for China’s Maritime Industry

On the morning of December 9th, under the protection of 10 maritime patrol vessels, the “NGUYA FLNG” departed from the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River, heading to the Zhoushan Shipyard for subsequent outfitting operations. The towing operation set a new record for Yangtze River transport, with a towing fleet measuring 705 meters in total length. The “NGUYA FLNG” alone boasts an impressive length of 376 meters, a beam of 60 meters, and a depth of 35 meters. With an above-water height of approximately 61.65 meters during transit, the operation required exceptional expertise and coordination, utilizing a combination of high-powered towing vessels for different roles, including emergency and auxiliary support.

A Crown Jewel in Marine Engineering

The FLNG platform represents a pinnacle of innovation in marine engineering, combining complexity, cost, and value. As a floating liquefied natural gas processing facility, the “NGUYA FLNG” is designed to operate far from land, directly liquefying and storing natural gas extracted from nearby fields. At full capacity, it can process approximately 3.8 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily (equivalent to 10.76 million cubic meters), making it a true “crown jewel” in the shipbuilding and offshore engineering industries.

A Collaborative Success Story

The “NGUYA FLNG” project was initiated in December 2022 through a collaborative agreement between Wison Clean Energy and Italy’s Eni Group. With an annual production capacity of 2.4 million tons, the platform measures 350 meters in length, 60 meters in width, and 35 meters in depth. The project is expected to commence operations by the end of 2025.

Upon completion, the platform will be deployed off the coast of Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo, to support Eni’s LNG project. It is estimated to facilitate an annual export of 4.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas, further strengthening energy cooperation between Wison and Eni while contributing to global energy transformation and sustainable development.

Haihao Group’s Perspective

As a leader in pipeline systems and a participant in numerous large-scale marine projects, Haihao Group deeply appreciates the engineering, innovation, and dedication required to achieve such a monumental milestone. The successful launch of “NGUYA FLNG” underscores China’s growing expertise in offshore engineering and its commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions on a global scale.
