6″ STD Carbon Steel Elbows Shipped to Russian Client for Pipeline Upgrade
Last week, we wrapped up the production and shipment of a batch of 6-inch STD 90° long radius elbows for a Russian client upgrading part of their transmission pipeline. The fittings were manufactured according to ASME B16.9 and made from ASTM A234 WPB carbon steel, as per the customer’s specification.

Project Scope
The order was straightforward in terms of specifications but required high precision and strict compliance with international standards. The client requested:

What stood out with this order wasn’t the complexity of the product itself, but the emphasis placed by the client on dimensional accuracy and quality inspection. These elbows are part of a larger pressure system, so weld-end precision and surface finish were both critical.

Quality Checks and Inspection
After hot forming, each elbow was subjected to a full set of visual and dimensional inspections. We also carried out:
- Bevel angle checks to ensure proper weld preparation
- Wall thickness measurements across multiple points to confirm uniformity
- Magnetic particle testing (MT) for surface defect detection
- Surface cleaning and anti-rust coating, per standard carbon steel handling protocols
No compromises were made on tolerances. The fittings had to be fully compliant with ASME B16.9 dimensional tolerances, and we provided full inspection documentation along with the shipment.
Packaging and Export Process
Since the elbows were destined for Russia, we packed them in reinforced plywood crates with internal cushioning to prevent movement during transport. Each piece was marked with heat number and batch ID for traceability, and the crates were labeled in both English and Russian for customs efficiency.
